William "Bill" Cole was born in 1840 a slave in North Carolina to Calvin Cole and Mattie Cole. He came to Kemper County, MS, with his parents and slave owners circa 1852.He married Bernettie "Nettie" Houston Cole, daughter of Stevenson "Steven" Houston and Mary Houston,
